Natural Disaster Hazard Assessment Essay Example
Cataclysmic event Hazard Assessment Essay Danger Assessment for Memphis, Tennessee Environmental Geology Hazard Assessment for Memphis, Tennessee A cataclysmic event is characterized as any occasion or power of nature that has calamitous outcomes (ââ¬Å"natural disasterâ⬠). The main explanation that these occasions are considered to have calamitous outcomes is on the grounds that individuals are adversely influenced by these common occasions. On the off chance that individuals were absent during these occasions, they would not be viewed as cataclysmic. The more individuals influenced implies the occasion would be viewed as progressively cataclysmic. Tennessee is the seventeenth most populated state, with around 6. million inhabitants (Infoplease. com). Inside the state, Shelby region covers the most territory, (755 square miles), and is likewise the most populated area, with roughly 927,644 individuals living there (Infoplease. com). Shelby area incorporates the city of Memphis. Memphis is the most populated city insid e Tennessee with at any rate 645,000 occupants (Infoplease. com). I have joined a few maps so as to see various pieces of the land. Guide I shows where the province lines are situated inside Tennessee. You can likewise observe where Memphis is situated inside the province. Guide II shows the height levels of the state. As should be obvious in that map, Memphis is situated inside the most reduced rise levels of the state. Guide III shows the streams that run all through the state. The primary stream that runs between the Tennessee, Arkansas, and Missouri outskirts is the Mississippi River. There are a few catastrophic events that I would consider to be dangers to the Memphis territory. One cataclysmic event that I would consider to be a worry to Memphis would be a seismic tremor. As per the United States Geological Survey, (USGS), there is an around six percent chance that there will be a significant tremor inside 50 kilometers of We will compose a custom article test on Natural Disaster Hazard Assessment explicitly for you for just $16.38 $13.9/page Request now We will compose a custom article test on Natural Disaster Hazard Assessment explicitly for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Recruit Writer We will compose a custom article test on Natural Disaster Hazard Assessment explicitly for you FOR ONLY $16.38 $13.9/page Recruit Writer Memphis in the following 50 years (Homefacts. com). The last seismic tremors that had sizes of five were in 1976 and 1991 (Homefacts. com). The tremor recorded in 1976 was around 40 miles from Memphis. Taking a gander at the sources discovered, I see that Tennessee has had a lot of quakes, so I would state that another seismic tremor happening in the region ought to be a worry of the residents and government authorities. ââ¬Å"There is a wide understanding in established researchers that a proceeding with concern exists for a significant ruinous quake in the New Madrid seismic zone. Numerous structures in Memphis, Tenn. what's more, different networks in the focal Mississippi River Valley area are defenseless and in danger for extreme ground shaking. â⬠(USGS. gov). The New Madrid Earthquake of 1812 was one of the most noteworthy occasions in U. S. history. Topographic changes were noted over a territory of 75,000 to 130,000 square kilometers, with the absolute region shaken be ing at any rate 5,000,000 square kilometers (USGS. gov). In those days, the harm was insignificant on account of meager populace. These days, a seismic tremor that extreme could result in ââ¬Å"great death toll and property harm in the billions of dollarsâ⬠(Cusec. rg). The way that Memphis is the most populated city in the express, a little quake could cause a lot of harm. ââ¬Å"By finding out about the potential tremor risks in your general vicinity and by taking certain readiness gauges now, you can build your odds of enduring a quake and limit its perilous and harming impactsâ⬠(Cusec. organization). There are numerous associations that Memphis has so as to assist residents with figuring out how to get ready for these calamitous occasions, and what to do so as to endure. One association is the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (R. A. C. E. S. ), which is a volunteer interchanges bunch that helps the Shelby region zone. R. A. C. E. S. furnishes crisis faculty that can help with interchanges during neighborhood, territorial, or national crisis/debacle occasions (Cityofmemphis. organization). Another association that gives assistance during crisis circumstances is the Memphis/Shelby County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). The EMA enables neighborhood, to state, and government offices with reaction to debacles that requires a multi-office/multi-jurisdictional reaction. The EMA has satellite connections with the National Weather Service that initiates alarms so as to caution the inhabitants of different urban communities, including Memphis (Cityofmemphis. organization). There are likewise things that the residents and mortgage holders could do so as to limit the harm during quake. Quake drills are an incredible method to help implement the significance of readiness, and to forestall frenzy and injury during a seismic tremor. Families ought to have crisis designs that spread out where everybody will be and where to rejoin with each other. Keep an electric lamp and a batterypowered radio in the home. Spot enormous or overwhelming items on lower retires, and affix the racks to dividers. What's more, in conclusion, have a seven to multi day gracefully of food and water (Cusec. organization). You can never be unreasonably arranged for any cataclysmic event, so being protected is better than being heartbroken. Not every single catastrophic event are dangers to Memphis. Volcanoes are a case of a cataclysmic event that isn't a danger to the Memphis zone. There are no known volcanoes in the territory that would make any sort of mischief the occupants of Memphis. Truly, there have not been any known volcanoes in the region either. Memphis isn't situated on any issue limits, so I would imagine that there would no volcanoes framing in the territory whenever sooner rather than later. Tropical storms are somewhat more of a worry for Memphis. The western territory of the state has the chance of being influenced before the finish of specific tempests. Tropical storm Katrina is a case of this circumstance wherein Memphis can be influenced by storms not really in the immediate zone. At the point when Hurricane Katrina hit the U. S. in 2005, numerous areas in Tennessee were cleared; Shelby County was one of those provinces (Fema. gov). I would believe Memphis to be somewhat worry about tropical storms happening in the region, particularly since the city is situated at a low height. The lower rise would be increasingly powerless to flooding. The legislature ought to have sufficient notice of the tropical storm, since it would in all likelihood be originating from the Gulf of Mexico. I would likewise expect that the residents would be set up for tropical storms, since they are accustomed to flooding circumstances. Tornadoes, I feel, are to a greater degree a worry than tropical storms. There are a lot more tornadoes in the state then there are on the edges. Tornadoes are bound to strike open fields as opposed to in a urban territory, similar to Memphis. ââ¬Å"The the truth is, not very many tornadoes ever contact down in the city of Memphisâ⬠¦.. All things considered, tornadoes can and have struck inside the cityâ⬠(About. com). There have been various tornadoes that have influenced Shelby district, yet not close to the same number of as the center of the state. The last one that influenced Shelby County, and had a high passing include was in 1987, with at any rate 120 passings (NWS Memphis Forecast Area Tornado Database). There have since been tornadoes that have caused passings, hich isn't amazing considering the measure of individuals that live in the city. With all the tornadoes that have experienced the district, there has consistently been a lot of harm. That likewise is justifiable since there are a ton of structures in the city. There have likewise been a lot of tornado alerts for the state, however not every one of th em influencing Shelby County. The last tornado cautioning that included Shelby County was on May 9, 2011. So as to be set up for a tornado, there are a few things we could do. As a matter of first importance, keep away from windows and look for cover in the middle most room on the least floor conceivable. Utilize your hands and arms to shield yourself from falling flotsam and jetsam. Additionally, keep a type of distinguishing proof on you consistently in the event that you are harmed or confused (About. com). Keeping ID on you is a smart thought for each catastrophic event. It will help crisis work force distinguish what your identity is and ideally get you back with your family. Torrents are another kind of catastrophic event that isn't a worry for Memphis. There have been no realized torrents recorded for Memphis. I don't feel that there will be any future tidal waves in Memphis on the grounds that there is no sea or huge waterway situated close to Memphis. The Mississippi River is close to Memphis, yet the stream doesn't make waves that would be sufficiently huge to make a seismic wave. Despite the fact that tidal waves are not a danger to the city, flooding is an enormous worry for the city. The Mississippi River is directly close to the city, so that would be an explanation with respect to why the region floods every now and again. The city is likewise at a low height, which is another explanation with respect to why the zone floods regularly. There is at present a functioning flood cautioning in compelling at this moment (Fema. gov). A year ago, there was flood that happened in the start of May. The Mississippi River should ascend to a record level of 48 feet, with 48. 7 being the record peak in 1937. In excess of 1,300 homes were requested to clear and about 400 individuals were living in covers. As indicated by an article on abcnews. com, the most broad harm happened in Memphis, where ââ¬Å"entire neighborhoods have been gulped by the water and vehicles totally submergedâ⬠(Tanglao, ââ¬Å"Memphis Floodingâ⬠). Since this clearly happens habitually, the residents and government have thoughts of what the levees can hold, and what the ri

Asian phiolosophy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Asian phiolosophy - Essay Example In this way, at a certain point, something is in one status and at the other time, it is in another status (Morgan 71). All things make due because of the differing idea of circumstances. An individual doesn't live in the phase of deficiency without fail. In the subsequent stage, an individual exists in the phase of bounty. This includes change from the phase of void to the phase of bounty. There is additionally a phase in which individuals exist among deficiency and bounty. This is the center track on which everything exist. This is because of the way that nothing can be totally in the status of plenitude or void. Regularly, someone or something will be in the middle of the status of inadequacy and wealth. This Tien Tai the truth depends on the lessons of White Lotus Sutra of human presence and the idea of actuality. This reveals insight into the interrelationship of human endurance. As indicated by Tien Tai convictions, these phases of reality direct people on how they act (Morgan 78). They structure the premise of judgment among greatness and wickedness deeds of a person. Individuals endeavor to live as indicated by the lessons and the regulations of the network in which an individual exists. Those truths are the core values among the Asians since they characterize the traditions of their locale. They decide singular opportunity in what they do and what they see. There is no individual who likes to carry on with a degenerate life. Without core values between what the general public needs and what an individual does, individuals will never comprehend what they are required to do. In this way, knowing reality and complying with it give an individual genuine feelings of serenity and physical freedom. The precepts of the Asian culture perceive real factors which control people in their reality. They recognize void living and bounty living (Morgan 79). This represents a contrast between physical living and profound life. When individuals get the opportunity to co mprehend the real factors, they can live as indicated by the traditions. This gives them freedom in their reality. Without legitimate appreciation of the truth of living, individuals can't acknowledge the lessons and in this manner, they can't have the genuine significance of life (Morgan 81). For individuals to be at freedom with their activities, they ought to become familiar with the truth visualized in the lessons of Buddhism. Question Two According to Shen-hsiu lessons, an individual exists in uprightness and must invest amounts of energy to improve their otherworldly being. This procedure includes a few phases as an individual moves starting with one status then onto the next (Jorgensen 74). The lessons accentuate that the change of a human life is anything but a one second occasion however is a ceaseless procedure. It is an entire life event which includes both the physical body and the psyche. This implies individuals should consistently be aware of their activities and must undertaking to make them upstanding. Their recollections will assist them with recognizing ethically upstanding and ethically wrong scenes. Then again, insight should manage individuals in picking what moves they should make. Individuals should make it a training to watch their activities and musings bombing which they won't have the option to look after healthiness. As indicated by the lessons of Hui-neng, a personââ¬â¢s presence is either in the void or in the plenitude (Jorgensen 85). The change starting with one state then onto the next happens immediately after an individual has understood reality. He underscores that in the principal example, an individual exists

Teacher Classroom Preparation and Setup for a First Grade...
Phase 1 Learning Environment I am a believer that the environment in a classroom will not only be a place of academics, but an environment that is inclusive to fostering personal growths as well as relationships. A classroom should embrace diversity in a cultural and cognitive nature as well. I have envisioned my own classroom with 20 first grade children. The layout of the classroom I have provided is what I feel would be the way I would have the class set up for the beginning of a fall semester. As the school year progresses I will have changes and additions to the classroom as needs to be accommodated. I am also a believer to keeps students busy and engaged. This includes changing the seating arrangements every two or three weeks, this keeps the students engaged in new relationships and the dynamics of their cognitive learning with activities at a different challenge. Different students have different things to bring to a group. The physical layout of my classroom would ideally be in groups of four. I will ensure that all students will have the ability to face the front of the class where instruction is held most of the time. Half of my students will be facing the front of the classroom while the other students will still be able to face the front while having their desks at 90 degree turned. The student who is found to be a visual processing disorder will be sitting in the front and I will have this student sitting next to a general education student.Show MoreRelatedPros and Cons of Differentiated Instruction1373 Words à |à 6 PagesHey guys. The Importance of the Concept of Cash Flow Free Essays
Assignment: The importance of the concept of cash-flow for the business finance Definition: Cash flow is the movement of money into or out of a business, an account or an investment. Normally, when the cash inflow is greater than the cash outflow it is a sign of a good financial situation because cash flow is essential for the survival of a business or even to any individual financial condition. If the company can meet its obligations and keep a healthy inflow of cash it has a healthy situation and the management of the company can invest most of its time in developing the company. We will write a custom essay sample on The Importance of the Concept of Cash Flow or any similar topic only for you Order Now There are 3 types of cash-flows: Operating cash-flows, which is the money received or spent as a result of a companyââ¬â¢s normal business activities. Investment cash-flows, which is the money received or spent through investing activities and thirdly the financing cash-flows, which is the cash received through debt or paid out as debt repayments. Example: Imagine that you run a shoe factory. Having cash is necessary for your business to flow. If you have cash you can pay your suppliers, your employees and yourself on time and so keep the business flow. Therefore if you, as an individual, receive your pay check, you can pay for all your expenses (e. g. housing, food, utilities, insurance, etc). Here we are speaking about operational cash-flow. Another way of creating cash is if you opt for purchasing and selling assets. This is normally a long term issue that can help your business grow and might lead to a net worth increase. This is called investment cash-flow. There are companies that are specialized in this area that manage funds that invest and divest in property. Finally, a third option you have is financing cash-flows. This includes any cash which comes from loans or other types of other debt that allow you to finance your cash flow. It is also used to finance the down payments made of debts. Conclusion: Based on the above, one understands the importance of managing carefully the cash-flow and also having capacity to meet emergency situations in order to be protected from unexpected circumstances, be it in a business or personally. To be able to run a company in a healthy way it is important to have a good and open relationship with your banks and secure lines of credit for certain times of the year when there is a delay in the cash inflows and also when there is a specific opportunity that requires cash. Companies that manage their cash flow in a positive way have a much stronger possibility of being successful. An example of an unexpected situation, and for which many are not normally prepared, is the sudden downturn in an economy just like what has happened in Portugal in the past three years. The factors which have had the biggest impact in the financial viability of companies are the inflation rate and above all, the restrictions on access to cash (e. g. : loans). If a business is not able to manage its cash-flow carefully and is not capable of setting aside emergency reserves (access to loans), then in a situation like today it will not be able to finance its cash flows and might enter into default. In some cases more than the economic capacity of a company it is its financial situation that might lead to a bankruptcy. We can then say that having cash is crucial for an entity to survive because companies with ample cash on hand can invest the cash back into the business and so generate more cash and profit. An old saying: ââ¬Å"When the going gets tough, Cash is King! â⬠Bibliography: Marques, Manuel de Oliveira, ââ¬Å"A Importancia do Correcto Entendimento do Conceito de Cashflow para a Analise e a Tomada de Decisoes Financeirasâ⬠, Estudos de Economia, vol. The Importance of Being Earnest Quotes
'The Importance of Being Earnest' Quotes Oscar Wilde created one of the most delightful and memorable social comedies with The Importance of Being Earnest. First performed in 1895, the play satirizes the stiff and proper customs and institutions of Victorian England. These quotes illustrate Wildes way with words in this witty farce. Social Standing Social standingà was very important during the Victorian era. You did not have a chance to rise to the top, as you might in the U.S., through hard work and luck. If you were born to a lower class generally the poorer and less-educated in society you would remain a member of that class for life, and you were expected to know your place, as these biting quotes illustrate. Really, if the lower orders donââ¬â¢t set us a good example, what on earth is the use of them? - Act 1 My dear Algy, you talk exactly as if you were a dentist. It is very vulgar to talk like a dentist when one isnt a dentist. It produces a false impression...à - Act 1 Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square.à - Act 1 Marriage Marriage during the Victorian era was decidedly unequal. Women lost all of their rights when they entered into the marriage contractà and were forced to endure the control and cruelty of their husbands. Women fought to gain more control in the institution of marriage, but they did not gain those rights until after the end of the Victorian era. I have always been of opinion that a man who desires to get married should know either everything or nothing.à -à Act 1 An engagement should come on a young girl as a surprise, pleasant or unpleasant as the case may be. - Act 1 And certainly once a man begins to neglect his domestic duties he becomes painfully effeminate, does he not?à - Act 2 The Roles of Men and Women Like everything else in this era, men and women were expected to behave in a prim and proper manner. But, a peak under to covers so to speak shows that what men and woman thought about their roles was very different than what appeared on the surface. All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. Thats his. - Act 1The only way to behave to a woman is to make love to her, if she is pretty, and to some one else, if she is plain. - Act 1 London society is full of women of the very highest birth who have, of their own free choice, remained thirty-five for years.à - Act 3ââ¬â¹Ã¢â¬â¹ The Importance of Being Earnest Must Victorian-era social interactions involved a dichotomy between what people said and how they acted in public and what they truly thought. The plays title and many of its quotes allude to Wildes belief that it was important to be earnest, and that truthfulness and honesty were lacking in Victorian society. Pray dont talk to me about the weather, Mr. Worthing. Whenever people talk to me about the weather, I always feel quite certain that they mean something else.
